Visit to Letterkenny

On Friday evening, 24 players from the Carrickfergus U19s mens rugby team and their guests travelled to Letterkenny RFC. As part of a cross border venture with the LKRFC, it was the first time the Carrick side had travelled to the Donegal town, which was organised as part of the CROP scheme – the CRFC Rugby Outreach Programme.

The CROP Programme is part financed by the E U’s PEACE III Programme, managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the CAN Peace III Partnership.

Friday evening saw the team take part in a Gaelic training session with the Letterkenny Gaels. This added a different dimension to the normal pre season that Carrickfergus usually under takes and enabled the players and coaching staff to experiment and exchange ideas to try back at Woodlawn. On Sunday Carrick played their more usual game of rugby against their hosts at Letterkenny RFC.

Commenting on the trip, Michael Simms stated: "The Gaelic training session was very beneficial to the players and coaches in sharing and developing new training drills to enhance skills which they will be able to take into the upcoming season. We would like to thank both teams for their superb hospitality and look forward to return matches at Woodlawn in the near future.”
